New Location in the Gulch!

NASHVILLE, TN – Established culinary firm, The Chef and I, announces their newest project to open in The Gulch: The Chef and I on Ninth. This cutting-edge gourmet restaurant will be presented in a casual environment, and the seasonal menu will feature many of Executive Chef Chris’s homeruns as well as some new items created solely for this location.

The Chef and I’s famous show kitchen returns in this new space, but on a much bigger scale. The Chef and I on Ninth will be a full service restaurant with lunch, dinner and late night menus. Patrons will be able to get in and out at lunch quickly and still experience the show kitchen, and those lingering at night can either order off the menu or take advantage of the chef’s coursed tastings. After a consultation with a chef, an entire tasting menu is created specifically for each guest based on their conversation.

Every guest will enjoy valet both day and night, and will have the option to wash and detail their car while they dine. Expect to see a collection of guitars on the wall; hand made for this location by local business owner and creator, Steve Tracy. The guitars will be for sale, and interested restaurants guests can play them by plugging into an amp right there in the restaurant.

 The Chef and I on Ninth will also be one of the first restaurants in the United States with live streaming cooking happening every moment the restaurant is open. Subscribers will have a chance to watch 24/7 on the new Gulch restaurant’s YouTube Channel, and guests will see it happening first hand via multiple cameras and screens inside the restaurant. 

The entire kitchen will be visible and out front – chefs will interact with guests and everyone will be able to see every single action taken to create their meals and others. Full transparency will exist at this new Gulch establishment.

This is the third project for this company, dating back to the creation of The Chef and I Catering in 2008, and the opening of The Chef and I at Lenox, their first restaurant, which opened in 2012 in Lenox Village south of Downtown Nashville.

Nashville-based Lankford Decorating & Construction, Inc., led by Bronson Lankford, will serve as the general contractor. Lankford also built the first location for The Chef and I at Lenox as well as other area restaurants like Patterson House and Le Sel.

The Chef and I on Ninth is located in the striking white building with double garage doors next door to King Baby, from whom The Chef and I is leasing the space just off 9th Avenue South and Division in Nashville. Neighbors include Party Fowl, Yazoo Brewery, Jackalope and PourHouse. This part of the Gulch is the newest and fastest growing, with plans for another couple of hotels including a Tru by Hilton slated for opening in 2019.

Plans for acoustic music and other fun chef-driven events are in the works later in the year as well. The entire restaurant will seat about 60, and in addition to the show kitchen, will have separate bar with local liquors, wines and beers. Drinks like “The Glitter” and “The Chicken and Waffle Bloody Mary” can be found exclusively on this drink menu. There will be regular tables as well, and folks can see the action at the show kitchen from anywhere in this intimate, inspired space.

Tasting events, chef battles, guest chef nights, Predators and Titans home games, happy hours, weekend brunches and a customer loyalty program will exist at this location as well. The Chef and I brand has always been about experiences, and bringing it on a larger scale to the Gulch is the dream of owners Erica and Chris Rains coming to fruition.

Husband and wife restaurateurs Erica Rains and Executive Chef Chris Rains are proud to bring this concept to a location that is easily accessible in the Gulch, Downtown, 12 South, Germantown, 8th Ave South, Midtown, SoBro, Hillsboro Village and other surrounding areas.
“As a Nashville native, it is important to me to continue to bring local business to my hometown,” says Erica Rains, CEO of The Chef and I, LLC and The Chef and I on Ninth, LLC. “Our employees come first; they are our family. We are excited to have the opportunity to create new jobs in the hospitality industry and to enter our tenth year in business with this exciting addition that is in line with our growth strategy.”

“Our guests become part of the story as soon as they walk in,” says Rains. “We break down the walls between the chef and the customer.” Folks who sit at the show kitchen will be served by the chefs themselves and servers will help attend to their beverage needs. Conversations with the chefs and other people at the show kitchen often create new friendships, as is the case in the Lenox Village location, now it its fifth year.

This time around The Chef and I have taken on a few investors, and those members are excited about the growth potential as well. The leadership team at The Chef and I on Ninth will include several existing managers who will be promoted within the company, and there are also openings currently available for this location to include a restaurant supervisor, servers, bartenders, restaurant assistants, hosts and dishwashers.  A job fair at Yazoo Brewery and the date of that event will be announced on The Chef and I Facebook page.
